Over 300 athletes will participate in FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships in Sierra Nevada

All the competitions will take place in the Snow Park Sulayr and the ski resort Sierra Nevada is preparing special products in order to facilitate the access to the event which combines sport and music

Over 300 athletes from 36 countries will participate from tomorrow in the Snowboard Junior World Championships in Sierra Nevada in the venues of Sulayr Snowpark in Loma de Dilar. The Snowboard Junior World Championships will be the second World Championships in the history of Sierra Nevada since the Alpine Ski World Championships organized in 1996, at the same time this is the first test event of Winter Universiade Granada 2015.

According to the CETURSA Sierra Nevada chief executive, María José López » if the 1996 World Chamionship transformed» the ski resort into «one of the biggest resorts», the Snowboard Junior World Championships will place Sulayr as one of the reference Snow Parks for the youngest snow disciplines: the snowboard and the Freestyle.

All the WJS Championship competitions will take in the Sulayr Snowpark which facilitates the slopes preparation and will minimize the impact of the event on the tourist skiing. «That will allow to combine the high-level competition with the commercial use of the venues.»

Moreover, the Organizing Committee will organize, together with the sponsors of the event, music concerts program in the Sulayr Snowpark and in the rest of the Ski resort in order to make the WJS Championship a sport and youth entertainment event on the snow of Sierra Nevada.

The Opening Ceremony will take place on Saturday on the Andalucía Square in Sierra Nevada and will include the Mach of all the participating athletes. Over 100 volunteers will collaborate in areas as: slopes preparation, security, information, competition secretariat during the ten days of the event. The Sports Promotion Director of Sierra Nevada, the former athlete, María José Rienda, explained that the five disciplines of the WJS Championship: Slopestyle, Snowboard cross, Half pipe, Parallel and Giant parallel are all spectacular and of expressive. M.J. Rienda added that all the five disciplines will take place in four venues which after the FIS technicians inspection will be ready to host the competitions.
